ICSQE 2024
The International Conference and School on Quantum Electronics "Laser Physics and Applications" is a traditional event, organized biennially by the Institute of Electronics since 1980, which includes in its topics investigations of the basic physical phenomena, processes of interaction of laser radiation with different materials and new scientific results obtained in the research areas of quantum electronics and optics, as well as the technological practical applications of new ideas, devices, instruments and laser systems. Leading scientists are invited to deliver lectures on the fundamentals of laser physics and applications of lasers as well as the newest results in these research areas.
The topics include the following:
- Laser - matter interactions
This topic area addresses physical phenomena that are unique to the interaction of high-power lasers with matter (solids, liquids and gases). It includes both continuous wave and pulsed laser effects. Mechanisms associated with the production of plasmas and their absorption and scattering characteristics are covered, as well as special features associated with ultrashort laser pulses. This topic also covers a wide range of scientific research that often bridges the gap between basic science and industrial applications/technology. The fundamentals of laser-material interaction down to micro- and nano-scales for fabrication, modification, and/or functionalization of the samples are also included.
- Laser spectroscopy and metrology
This topic area addresses the laser spectroscopy of atoms and molecules in vapor, liquid or solid phase. The effects covered include electromagnetically-induced transparency and absorption, laser cooling and trapping of atoms, light-induced atomic desorption, Dicke narrowing of the resonances, van der Waals interaction of atoms with surfaces, and holographic effects. The topic includes also the variety of applications based on the laser spectroscopy effects, such as: development of new photonic sensors, optical magnetometers and clocks, miniaturized vapor cells, frequency references, special laser sources and holographic elements with applications in metrology.
- Laser remote sensing and ecology
The focus is placed on obtaining remote sensing data for the atmosphere, earth surface and the oceans, the spectral information included therein and the methods used to measure spectral images by satellites. This topic includes also discussions on the applications of laser remote sensing, including problems of lidar deployment as part of multi-dimensional, multi-sensor observation networks, together with demonstration of examples and ideas on the analysis and assimilation into models of multi-parameter geographically extensive data sets. Additionally, discussions on specific issues, such as applying lidars in following climate changes, restoration of historic building and lidar educational activities will be encouraged.
- Lasers in biology and medicine
This topic covers laser medical and biomedical research and development of new diagnostic and therapeutic methods and equipment with contributions to the fields of fluorescence and reflectance spectroscopy of human tissues, photodiagnosis and photodynamic therapy of skin, esophagus, stomach and colon cancer, application of photosensitizers for photodynamic inactivation of microorganisms, fluorescent labeling of macromolecules, development of systems for photodiagnosis and photodynamic therapy of skin and gastroenterology applications. Selection of proper excitation sources and sensitive detectors opens up a wide range of possibilities related to real-time determination of existing pathological conditions.
- Laser systems and nonlinear optics
This topic is focused on the design of novel laser systems and their applications, nonlinear optical processes, materials, and devices. The School is an appropriate forum for presentation of new results related to improving the lasers performance and efficiency, which can only be provided by new scientific ideas and novel technological approaches. Contributions on pioneering research on the development of the quasi-phase matching process used in the engineering of nonlinear materials for high-efficiency frequency doubling, optical parametric generation, etc., will also be included.
- Alternative techniques for material synthesis and processing
This topic is intended to attract reports on research dealing with various techniques for fabrication, processing and application of materials that are alternative to the laser-based ones. It may include other physical, chemical and complex methods for material synthesis and modification. The goal is to demonstrate the capabilities of other approaches, to compare them with the laser-based research, and to stimulate the exchange of ideas from different areas of science and technology. We aim that the range of the subjects be broad and cover studies from fundamental phenomena to specific applications.
